Bel Air Children’s Home

The last couple of months seem to have flown by, with so much happening at the Home, it’s hard to know where to begin...

In February Youth Options from Romsey, Hampshire in the UK freely gave up their time for a sponsored Car wash. The teenagers raised £50.00 in two hours. In addition, Youth Options has very kindly chosen  Bel Air as their International charity for 2011.

A massive 46 boxes of food , medical supplies, bedding , clothes and much much more has been sent. This was also added to by a very generous donation from Jo White from Global Plantations. It couldn’t have been packed without the aid of Louise Andrews and her team at Youth Options.

A huge thank you to Digicel who have donated EC$5.000 for new computers for the children to work on. Plans are in hand to renovate and decorate the library, so watch this space!

The chickens that were donated by Cathy Purnell have started laying, so eggs are on the menu for breakfast now!

A big thank you to Steve and Kathie Dice (USA) for contributing their time and money to brighten the children's home! The nursery is now a beautiful soft lilac. We have also bought 45metres of animal fabric to compliment the new colour scheme

Our Child Sponsorship programme has started with nine children being sponsored. This is a really worth while way of making a real difference to a child’s life. Your small monthly donation goes towards providing extra tuition and educational needs. If you are interested in sponsoring a child, please contact us to find out more.

Whilst we are on the subject of sponsorship, Marie Sawle, one of the UK Trustees of the Friends of Bel Air climbed Kilimanjaro in  February and raised an incredible £2,700. This money has made it possible for the us to send out another BIG shipment of goods to the Home which will arrive 10th April.

We have finally been able to complete the water tank project before the rainy season ‘kicks in’ thanks to a very timely donation from the Jason Roberts Foundation.

The ladies played a big part in collecting things at the last minute, including some fabulous sewing machines. The older girls are going to learn how to use them and it will provide another source of income going forward. We will be collecting sewing thread, material and universal needles to maximise the potential of this donation - Thank you ladies!
