The St. George's University provides 35% of the annual running costs of the Home,
while the Government of Grenada provides 35%. The remainder of these costs has to
be met by contributions, financial or in kind, from businesses and individuals in
Grenada and overseas. This has been a constant struggle in Grenada following the
passage of Hurricane Ivan in September 2004, when 90% of the buildings on the island
were devastated. People stopped travelling to the island and both tourism and industry
were hit badly. Spare cash has simply not been available.
Our home and facilities
are basic. Money has not been available for luxuries like decoration, educational,
or motivational material and equipment to give the children hope for a brighter future.
We hope to change that situation with a new set of initiatives and projects that
we launched in June 2010. You can see more of these on the projects page and we are
extremely grateful for any help that you may be able to offer us.
