Bel Air Home for Children and Adolescents was opened in 1999 as the first purpose built facility of its kind in the State of Grenada, Carriacou and Petite Martinique. Its construction and opening marked the culmination of a long-term dream that had the support and backing of a number of committed individuals and corporate citizens. Most notable among these are:
St. George’s University, which donated the plot of land on which the home is built, Grenada Electricity Services Ltd., which donated one million EC dollars to cover the building costs, and Creative Design Company, which contributed professional time and services by building the home at cost.
The Home is owned and managed by “The Bel Air Home for Children and Adolescents Inc.,” a non-profit company established and registered in 1997. Funding for general operating costs and recurrent expenditure is provided by the Government of Grenada (through an annual subvention), St. George’s University and corporate and individual donations of cash, goods and services. Fund raising efforts are also organized and carried out by the Home on a regular basis. We are located in the south of the island, in the village of Calliste, St. George’s and our mission is to promote and provide appropriate care, services and activities for the welfare, benefit and educational development of children and young people.
Our goal is to provide respite and residential care for all children and adolescents in need, usually between 0 and 12 years old. In special circumstances female residents may be accepted, or may remain, in the Home up to the age of 18 where necessary and appropriate. The Home operates without prejudice to the religion, ethnic group, social status or area of origin of all children. The Home was purpose built to accommodate up to 20 babies and toddlers in the nursery and 20 adolescent girls in individual cubicles (measuring 5′ x 8′) on the upper floor. There are currently twenty two children in the home, aged between 2 years and twenty one years of age.
Thank you for visiting our site. We look forward to your support.
